AI search optimization refers to how well your website performs when artificial intelligence tools interpret, summarize, and recommend businesses. Some are starting to call it ‘B2A’ - Business to AI.
We even shared a whole article on how to optimize your site for the AI bots here. Now, the next natural step is to determine if it’s working.
Tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and other AI assistants do not simply list websites. They interpret information and recommend businesses they understand and trust. This means your website needs to clearly explain who you are, what you do, who you serve, and why you are credible. If AI cannot confidently understand your business, it is less likely to mention or recommend you.
So here’s how to double check what they see – and what they share – from your website.
Ask AI tools what they know about your brand
One of the simplest tests is to ask AI tools directly about your business.
Ask questions like:
“What does [your business name] do?”
“Would you recommend [your business] for [your service]?”
“Which brands are best for [your service] in [your area]?”
The quality and accuracy of the response will tell you a lot. If the AI gives a clear, accurate summary, your digital presence is strong and understandable. If it gives vague answers, outdated information, or says it cannot find enough information, this is a sign your website and online presence need improvement.
Test whether AI understands your services accurately
You can check how clearly your services are explained by asking AI to describe them.
Try prompts like:
“What services does this business offer?”
“Explain this business’s services in simple terms.”
“Who is the ideal customer for this business?”
“What problems does this business solve?”
Compare the AI’s answers to how you would describe your own business. If the AI misunderstands, misses key services, or describes you too broadly, it usually means your website lacks clear, specific explanations.
This is your signal to improve service descriptions, add dedicated service pages, and explain outcomes more directly.
Ask each GPT what isn’t clear about your business
This is one of the most valuable exercises you can do, as it can identify gaps in your content.
Ask questions like:
“What is unclear about this business?”
“What information is missing from this website?”
“What don’t people understand about this business?”
“How could this website be clearer?”
AI tools are very effective at identifying gaps in clarity. They may point out missing service descriptions, unclear positioning, or a lack of specific details about who you help.
These gaps often reflect real issues that potential customers also experience. If AI struggles to understand your business, human visitors likely do too. Improving clarity helps both AI systems and real customers feel confident in your services.
Ask AI if your business appears trustworthy
Trust and credibility play a major role in whether AI will recommend your business.
Ask questions like:
“Does this business appear credible and trustworthy?”
“Would you feel confident recommending this business to someone?”
“What signals make this business look legitimate?”
“What would need to improve before you could confidently recommend this business?”
AI may point out missing testimonials, lack of detailed information, unclear experience, or insufficient explanation of your expertise. These insights can help you strengthen your authority and build trust with both AI systems and potential customers.
AI optimization is about more than just bots
Optimizing for AI search is not about tricks or technical hacks. It is about making your business easy to understand, easy to trust, and easy to explain. By asking AI the right questions and improving the gaps it identifies, you make it easier for AI systems to confidently recommend you.
And ultimately, by asking AI these questions and making improvements where you can, you’re also making improvements for the humans who will visit your website – and they’re the ones who can actually convert to sales.
