Celebrating Small Business Week: 7 Fantastic Small Businesses to Visit This Week!

Small business week is coming up October 21 – 25, and as a non-profit committed entirely to supporting businesses in the Sea to Sky, we’re excited to use this as an excuse to highlight some fantastic local businesses!

We recently offered five suggestions for how small businesses can support other small businesses, so we’re encouraging everyone to get out and actively support the local small businesses near you during the week.

Here are just seven examples of great local companies you can check out!

Mt Currie Coffee

Mt Currie Coffee operates in both Whistler and Pemberton, where they serve exceptional coffees made with sustainably sourced ingredients. You can even book their coffee cart for your events and functions for something a little special.

“Call us enablers who send you off into the mountains well-equipped with tasty breakfast burritos, kick-ass paninis, and freshly baked treats.”

Wilder Cookies

Anyone who has tasted Wilder Cookies already knows how addictive they are – and probably needs little encouragement to get out and sample a couple more during Small Business Week.

It’s hard to go past the OG Chocolate Chunk cookie, but the Lemon Cookie is also very much a zingy favourite. You’ll find them at all Forecast Coffee locations, as well as in Lift Coffee in Whistler (more great local businesses!).

The Spot Laundry

The Spot Laundry is a Squamish local’s go-to for dealing with their laundry. You can pop in to put a load through the coin-operated washer and dryers, or enjoy the ease of their drop off & pick up wash and fold laundry service. They accept both personal and commercial laundry, and now they even have showers and an infrared sauna available on site!

Pemberton Town Square Ltd.

Pemberton Town Square Ltd. is like several small businesses in one. It’s a restaurant, a food truck, and an off-site BBQ-to-plate catering service. The focus here is on fresh, local food sourced from the abundant surrounding valley, with a number of local farms providing produce for the restaurant.

And if you’re not sure when to stop by – try Friday night, when there’s live music to add to the ambiance!

Off Grid Customs

The Sea to Sky is home to some of the best outdoor spaces anywhere, and it’s no wonder that many of its residents spend their weekends getting out and enjoying it. Off Grid Customs is a small Squamish business that helps with just that.

This team builds premium composite expedition boxes and truck camper boxes. They use durable, lightweight materials that are well insulated against the harsh Canadian elements, making them an easy choice for locals looking to upgrade their adventure kit.

Firetail Pets

Looking to treat your fur child? Make a beeline for Firetail Pets in Squamish, where they offer healthy pet food options and a huge array of toys and essentials for your furry friend.

Plus, be sure to check out their incredibly cute photo gallery of happy ‘customers’!

Empire of Dirt

And if you don’t know what you want, head to Empire of Dirt. This store has a little of everything, from jewellery and furniture, to local art, collectibles, knick-knacks, and everything in between.

Not knowing what you’ll find is part of the magic, so wander in and see what strikes your fancy.

Supporting Small Business

Small Business Week is all about supporting small businesses for five days, but Community Futures Howe Sound supports small businesses 365 days of the year.
