An interview with Beriah Chandoo, Founder & CEO of Cedar Rock Wellness

Cedar Rock Wellness is a fitness and wellness space located in Squamish, BC.

Their specialized treatments and programs focus on preventing injuries, expediting recovery post-injury or surgery, and supporting clients in adapting to lifestyle changes. That includes physiotherapy, massage therapy, personal training, pilates, as well as supplementary options like acupuncture, ultrasound, and laser treatments.

This relatively new business in town is adding much-needed support and services to our exercise-loving, often-injured, local community. So we asked founder & CEO Beriah Chandoo all about getting started, lessons along the way, and her favourite local businesses.

How did you get your business started?

I started Cedar Rock Wellness because I personally saw the need for better holistic, multidisciplinary care—something that goes the extra mile for clients. My goal was to create a space that feels elevated and spa-like, where people can experience comprehensive, integrative care in a welcoming environment.

As an occupational therapist with over 20 years of experience as a registered clinician and specialist consultant, I’ve developed a passion for women's health and supporting those affected by cancer. This background and focus have driven me to create a clinic that blends traditional therapies with modern approaches, prioritizing personalized care and community connection.

What is the product or service you’re most proud of?

Our physiotherapy services stand out the most. We take a unique approach that goes beyond physical treatment, emphasizing overall well-being. We incorporate movement, mindfulness, and education, which really helps our clients feel supported in every aspect of their health journey.

Additionally, we are proud to host products from many local small businesses, supporting the local economy and fostering a strong community network. We are also dedicated to inspiring and empowering our community through educational talks and events, which are a cornerstone of our mission.

What do you love most about living and working in the Sea to Sky?

The sense of community in Sea to Sky is truly special. The mix of natural beauty and the strong, supportive network of local businesses make it an inspiring place to live and work. There’s a genuine care for wellness and sustainability here, which aligns with our mission.

What advice do you wish someone gave you when you started thinking about launching a business?

I wish someone had emphasized the importance of finding a balance between trusting your instincts and seeking guidance. It's crucial to lean on mentors and community resources, like Community Futures, while also trusting your own vision and staying true to your values.

What has been your biggest challenge so far, and how have you overcome it?

Managing the operational side of a growing wellness clinic has been a challenge. Balancing administrative tasks with providing high-quality client care required implementing solid systems and finding the right team. With support from mentors and a bit of trial and error, we've streamlined our processes to focus more on what matters—our clients' wellness.

How has Community Futures Howe Sound helped your business?

Community Futures has been instrumental in helping us structure our business for sustainable growth. Their resources, networking opportunities, and support have been invaluable in navigating the challenges of a startup, and I feel more equipped to face the future because of their guidance.

Do you have any other local businesses you particularly admire?

Absolutely! F45 Squamish is doing an amazing job promoting health and fitness in the community, and I admire Sunada Holistic Nutrition for their dedication to holistic, eco-friendly wellness. I also have a lot of respect for Roundhouse Martial Arts, as they foster both physical and mental strength, creating a supportive environment for personal development.

All three businesses share a commitment to supporting the health and vitality of our local community.
